In September of 2016 British, USA-based, producer Bonobo embarked on a collaboration with the Brooklyn-based Moroccan Gnawa band, Innov Gnawa. The fruits of their labour was the beautiful piece 'Bambro Koyo Ganda' combining the rich tradition of Gnawa music with Bonobo's lush electronic production. The track was a breakout hit from his 2017 album Migration and is currently nominated for Best Dance Recording in the 2018 Grammy Awards.
On the eve of the Grammy Awards I programmed an event to celebrate artists that bridge the folkloric and modern electronic traditions. The night featured a DJ set by Bonobo, Haitian Afrohouse stalwart DJ Sabine, a live performance by Innov Gnawa and Wonderwheel Recordings don Nickodemus. The evening was all hosted by French neo-soul songstresses, Les Nubians.
